Crystal Glick is grateful to live with her brother’s family since her father died and her fiancé, Owen, broke their engagement. Crystal loves her bruderskinner and cheerfully helps her sister-in-law through a difficult pregnancy with babies number seven and eight, but she yearns for a husband and children of her own.

Duane Bontrager is mourning the recent death of his wife, Connie, after twenty-four years of marriage. He and his grown sons have a thriving roofing business, but can’t get used to life without her. As the young men prepare to launch out on their own, Duane can’t imagine life alone—nor with anyone but Connie.

When a roofing job at the Glicks introduces Duane and Crystal, they’re attracted in spite of their fourteen-year age difference. But their bishop thinks Duane is better suited for the sweet widow Tricia, and DDuane’ssons object to his interest in any woman. CCrystal’sfamily fears losing her indispensable help. If she must go, they’d rather she be reunited with Owen in spite of his betrayal.

They’re the only two who believe they’re a match made in heaven. Can Duane and Crystal overcome the obstacles to love?

MY THOUGHTS

The Foundation of Love is another must-read if you are a fan of Amish Fiction. Amy Clipston is known for her Amish Marketplace series and many other fantastic novels in the Amish community. Foundation of Love is a love story and a story about healing from loss, adjusting to change, and rebuilding from the sudden shifts that life brings. This is a beautifully written story and a page-turner that engages the reader. I could not put it down.

With Spring just around the corner, this is a suitable story to read for this time of year, as it takes place in the Springtime with blooming flowers and gardens. This story was very moving as I could relate to some areas with Crystal as she loves gardening, and I, too, have experienced the loss of both parents. I have often felt that same tug to go into my garden and have peace of mind while working in the soil.

“As Crystal walked out to the barn to call Kane’s driver, she looked up at the bright-blue sky and breathed in the fragrance of mid-may. She looked out toward her garden and felt a tug at her heart. How she longed to sit on a garden stool and soak up the sun while working the soil.” – Clipston, Foundation of Love p. 143

I was very impressed with how the story held the reader’s attention throughout the entire book. From beginning to end, the storyline kept suspense that made you feel like you were right beside each of these characters wanting to know what would happen to them next. Clipston has such a talented way of describing the scenes in her stories to make the reader feel more connected. This story encompasses the heart of selfless love enveloped with following what is important and not what others think. The title of this story fits ideally. We are introduced to two characters who build upon a foundation of love that was once broken down. How will they rebuild their foundations, and what obstacles will they endure and overcome?
