DESCRIPTION

When a jilted romance novelist escapes to a small beach town, the last thing she expects to find was the start of an even better love story.

In the wake of a broken engagement and the death of her last surviving family member, sweet romance novelist Maya Reynolds moves to the haven of Coral Cove, North Carolina, to take over her great-aunt’s toy store. Some of her grief is immediately eased by imaginative eight-year-old Ashlyn Tanner, who talks her into adopting a kitten and inspires Maya to create a princess tea party room in the store.

Ashlyn’s dad, a local veterinarian Brody Tanner, is quickly smitten by the newest resident of his hometown. As a single parent, he sacrifices a lot in order to give Ashlyn the world, so a romantic entanglement with Maya is not a distraction he is looking for.

As the three develop a deepening bond in the seaside town where Maya experienced some of her happiest childhood memories, clouds cast a shadow over Maya’s hope for the future: an impossible deadline looms over her next novel, a long-held secret by her late mother about Maya’s absent father comes to light, and Brody’s resolve to avoid romance seems unbreakable.

But together, they might discover that sometimes happy endings happen outside the pages of Maya’s novels.

MY THOUGHTS

If you enjoyed reading Amy Clipston’s contemporary romance ‘The Heart of Splendid Lake’, you will also enjoy this book. Amy is also known for her  Amish novels, which I encourage anyone to check out for an enjoyable and inspirational read.

Like many other great books written by Amy, ‘The View from Coral Cove’ was a page-turner! Amy devises well-thought-out plots for each of her stories that make the reader want to know what will happen next to each character. Whenever I was away from reading this book, I caught myself wondering what would happen, especially with some of the plot twists that are unexpected but keep the reader’s engaged throughout the book. Amy does a fantastic job developing each character’s personalities, backstories, strengths, and obstacles they encounter, even little furry animals. If you are familiar with Amy’s books and Amy herself, then it is no secret how much she loves cats and includes writing about some furry friends in her stories. In ‘The View from Coral Cove’, the reader will also meet a little furry friend who plays a significant part in the story.

This book tells the story of a brave and courageous writer Maya Reynolds, and her return to Coral Cove, North Carolina. While trying to overcome a serious case of writer’s block for her next romance book, Maya encounters many obstacles as she becomes settled in her new job of taking over her great Aunt CeCe’s store that was left to her.  As she heals from grief and heartache from the loss of her aunt and also a sudden bad breakup will she be able to endure and overcome these challenges? While settling into Coral Cove,  Maya sparks up a sweet friendship with a local veterinarian, Brody Tanner, and his daughter Ashlyn. Like Maya, Brody and Ashlyn have been through a lot together. Will Maya and Brody have enough trust in each other and courage in themselves to put the heartaches of their pasts behind them and begin to move forward?

With such a descriptive style of writing, I could just envision each scene Amy includes in this story. Especially what Maya’s Aunt’s toy store looked like with the Barbies, a tea display in the window, the tea room with all the Disney decals, and Brody’s and Ashlyn’s beautiful home with a “super-awesome” deck. I personally loved how Amy captured the special moments shared between Maya and the characters in this book. The bond between friendships, the pain from loss, the excitement of a child at her birthday party, and the beautiful romance building between two characters from the light touches and brushing kisses on the lips. The reader will be sure to smile, maybe have a few tears, and some warm blushing moments.

I would describe this book just as Brody described Maya’s romance books “…your characters are believable, and without that, the plot doesn’t really matter” Amy’s characters are also believable which makes this story more intimate and relatable to the reader. This book would make a fantastic read while relaxing near the beach or perhaps a cove.
